** Programme updates

**
DRIVE artists announced
------------------------------------------------------------

The five DRIVE artists taking part in our creative development programme are: Jessica Ashman (http://www.jessla.co.uk/) , Katerina Athanasopoulou (http://www.kineticat.co.uk/) , George Eksts (http://cargocollective.com/eksts) , Sarah Evans (http://sarahevans.net/) and Chris Newby (http://christophernewby.com/) . They cover a range of practice, with experience across independent animation, art galleries, public art, online platforms and feature film. They have challenged themselves to take their work in ambitious, new and exciting directions. DRIVE will provide expert support and work with them to identify, strategic and practical steps they need to take. Their DRIVE blogs will be live soon. The DRIVE programme has been developed with, and is generously supported by, Jerwood Charitable Foundation.

** Animate OPEN: deadline reminder
------------------------------------------------------------

Just a month left for (UK, international) artists and animators to submit their work to Parts & Labour: the second Animate OPEN. The deadline is 3 September 2015.

The Parts & Labour gallery exhibition opens at QUAD (http://www.derbyquad.co.uk/) in Derby on 27 November 2015. Selected artists will receive an exhibition fee and there will be an Animate OPEN Prize of £1,500 and an Audience Prize of £750. The submission guidelines are here (http://www.scribd.com/doc/268918226/Animate-OPEN-Parts-Labour-Guidelines) .

Submission fees are £10 for one work, £15 for two. Animate Projects is a charity and does not receive core funding; all fee income contributes to the administration of the Animate OPEN.

** Parts & Labour: Noriko Okaku
------------------------------------------------------------

We're pleased to announce that artist Noriko Okaku (http://www.norikookaku.com/) has been selected for our Parts & Labour commission in partnership with QUAD (http://www.derbyquad.co.uk/) and D-Lab (http://www.d-lab.org.uk/) . She will be making work for exhibition in QUAD’s Extra Gallery Spaces and online, alongside the Animate OPEN gallery exhibition, opening 27 November 2015. Noriko's film Allegory of Mr. Triangle was selected for Digitalis, the first Animate OPEN, in 2011.

** Animations for Into the Little Hill
------------------------------------------------------------
We are excited to be collaborating with London Sinfonietta (http://www.londonsinfonietta.org.uk/) to develop and produce animations for George Benjamin and Martin Crimp’s acclaimed opera Into the Little Hill (http://www.theguardian.com/music/2006/nov/25/classicalmusicandopera1) . We are working with artists Karolina Glusiec (https://karolinaglusiec.wordpress.com/) , Oliver Harrison (http://www.oliverharrison.com/) and Edwin Rostron (http://www.edwinrostron.net) .

Martin Crimp says: “We are excited by the potential of animation to add a new artistic layer to the piece - one that is somehow able to reflect the sparseness of the text and the richly unfolding invention of the music.”

Later this year we’ll be launching a website that documents this research and development phase of the project.

** Our new Programme Coordinator
------------------------------------------------------------

We’re very pleased that Chris Swann has joined the Animate team as programme coordinator. Chris has been a production manager with our friends at Flatpack Film Festival (http://www.flatpackfestival.org/) , and has a philosophy degree, so we feel safe in his hands.

We’re also very happy now that we’re ensconced at QUAD, our new home in Derby.
